Together We Will: Build Community of Hope & Joy
Despite growth and progress India’s poorest, namely, tribal and women are left behind. Hardly any development or progress reaches them. Multidimensional Poverty Index as well as Human Development Poverty Index broadly identifies education, health and income/resource ownership as primary indicators of poverty.
Tribal population is 8.6 percent of the total population of the country and Jharkhand is home to 8.3% of the country’s tribal population. While different policies and schemes are launched for benefit of deprived communities but same are not reaching the marginalized. Therefore, the project – Together We Will: Build Community of Hope & Joy works to disseminate information about these schemes in a focused manner to the deprived while simultaneously giving voice to people through collectivization (with specific focus on women beneficiaries). The government schemes include FRA – Forest Rights Act, NRLM – National Rural Livelihood Mission, MGNREGA – Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, NRHM – National Rural Health Mission, PMAY – G – Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Grameen, ICDS – Integrated Child Development Services (focus on supplementary nutrition component of this programme) and Pension Schemes. We are also working on leadership of women in processes and to ensure women participate equally in leadership as well as in accessing the benefits of identified schemes. This access to different schemes will ensure sustained income for the deprived communities. The project also focuses on creating spaces for interface with government departments so joint strategies for implementation can emerge. Local church congregations are involved in the process as support system and to include them in development of their communities. A conscious focus is kept on gender which will help to address the SDG 5 on gender equality.
